Yuri's backstory involves her three younger siblings being murdered by burglars looking for valuables. She never forgave herself for failing to prevent their deaths, and this tragedy led her to vow to fight against God. She founded the SSS with Hideki Hinata, who nicknamed her Yurippe because he did not feel comfortable calling her Yuri, as his mother has the same name. Yuri is an effective leader, but does not think so. Later in the story, she regrets even fighting with Kanade, because she feels she could have been great friends with her. When mysterious shadow-like entities begin appearing and attacking residents by turning them into NPCs, Yuri destroys the source of the shadows, which were created by computers programmed to activate when love was detected in the afterlife to prevent it from becoming a paradise. Her affection for the members of the SSS allows her to finally overcome her regret. She disappears after the graduation ceremony.

In Their Own Story

Yuri leads the SSS in several operations and missions against Angel, the student council president. During one of GDM's diversion concerts, Iwasawa passes on from the afterlife after achieving satisfaction through her music. After the SSS manages to demote Angel from her position, Otonashi partially regains his memories with the aid of deputy president Ayato Naoi's hypnosis. Later, Otonashi helps Kanade make peace with the SSS and learns of the afterlife's true purpose. Yuri is among the last to pass on, holding a graduation ceremony with Otonashi, Kanade, Hinata, and Naoi before Naoi, Yuri, and Hinata pass on, leaving only Otonashi and Kanade.
